In the Image of Christ

Posted on May 28, 2009

This year we are blessed to have with us Dennis Ross, the ministerial director of the Southern Union Conference. On Monday, he brought out the idea of “Identity Crisis.” This, at one time or another, has affected us all. As humans we are so concerned about OUR image, to the extent that we are more focused on self than on God.

“Jesus clearly identified himself as the Son of God. He KNEW who He was,” stated Ross.

The culture we live in today is so concerned with getting “outside of the box.” Whether that be “thinking outside the box,” “working outside the box,” or just being “outside the box.” But what Ross warns is to not “lose the box.”

Ross went on to say that we as a society do not have the right idea of who Christ is and who we are because we live in a culture that has veered away from the Bible. We are a society “that knows more about American Idol” than we do about the true identity of Christ.

The identity of who we are, Ross suggests, is “Sabbath Keepers.” But more importantly, the proclamation of the Three Angels Message should be our identity. Ross says if we, as Seventh-day Adventists, are not different from any other group, we are nothing.

Ross reminds us to “Never forget why we are here, who Jesus is or who we belong to."
