Victor, the KGB Spy

Posted on May 29, 2009

The four o’clock seminar presenter, Mikhail Kulakov, Jr. asked the packed audience if they wanted to hear the rest of the story about “Victor the KGB spy?” Well you guessed it - every person raised their hand! Each day Kulakov kept his audience on the edge of their seat as he “peppered” his presentation with thrilling stories of his life and times in the Soviet Union.

Imagine yourself in the Soviet Army. You’ve told your commanding offi cer that you’re a Sabbath-Keeper. Now imagine what your life would be like serving in this army in a most oppressive time in the Soviet Union. Well that’s exactly what happened to Mikhail Kulakov.

Kulakov, Professor of Political Studies and Philosophy at Columbia Union College, has been sharing each day in his four o’clock seminar, the “Joy of Sabbath-Keeping.”

“Think about the Sabbath as a laboratory,” Kulakov declares. “Think about it as ‘life in paradise’ throughout eternity.”

Kulakov proposes to think of the Sabbath in a practical way, with seven functions: 1. The Sabbath is a weekly encounter with a loving parent. 2. The Sabbath is liberation from slavery. 3. The Sabbath is a time for synchronization with God. 4. Liberation from non-commitment, Sabbath is a wake-up call. 5. It’s liberation from loneliness. 6. Sabbath is liberation from presumption. 7. The Sabbath is liberation from imitation; the allurements of this life, God says, “Everything I give you is real, no imitations.” The Sabbath is a weekly laboratory where God says, “I want you to stop everything you’re doing and start practicing eternity.”

If you’ve missed this timely seminar, you’ve really missed something! Oh, by the way, what about the rest of the story of Victor, the KGB spy? Well stay tuned—you won’t want to miss another episode of “Soviet military and spy stories” with Mikhail Kulakov.
