Minner Labrador, Senior pastor of the Sharon church in Charlotte, NC, spent this summer developing his long-time vision for a men's television show. Labrador's passion for media ministries stems from his belief that the best way to win men and their families for Christ today, is to enter their homes through television and radio. Kris Allen steered the project through 8 weeks of filming as producer and director of the show. Allen is also a mission segment producer for ShareHim and Quiet Hour Ministries. Crew members included Evelyn Labrador, Gary Bartsch, Lucas Tanaka from Mt. Pisgah Academy, and several others from the Sharon church. They transformed one of the Sabbath classrooms at the church into a makeshift television studio.
Entitled "Old Man New Man," this television program focuses on how single men, fathers, and husbands can gain personal freedom and achievement in marriage, parenting, finances, sexual integrity, health, and more. This television and radio program is a major breakthrough in Adventist media because there has not been such a program to specifically cater to men and their needs. Family is an important institution created by God in the Garden of Eden, and He gave the man dominion, not to over exert or abuse his power, but to become a faithful leader and provider.
With Labrador as host, different authors, counselors and experts discuss issues effecting men in today's society. But it's not just for men. Women can learn what makes men tick. Husbands and wives can find spiritual solutions for a rocky marriage. The possibilities are endless when the man learns how to be the head of his household. Labrador says "When a man comes to Christ over 90% of the time the whole family follows." God's blessings upon this project have just begun. Old Man New Man made its television debut November 1st and can be seen Sundays at midnight on WAXN64. Charlotte Time Warner Cable customers can find the program on channel 10. In January 2010 it will begin showing on the Hope Channel. Pray for lives to be changed, broken hearts mended, and for the vision to keep growing.
In addition to his roles as husband, father, son, pastor and host of a television show, Pastor Labrador is the Director of Men's Ministries for the Carolina Conference and coordinator of Men's Ministries for the North American Division. The Carolina Conference made this possible in order to minister to men locally and in other conferences and communities across the country.
