Share Him...Boot Camp Style!

The purpose of a ShareHim boot camp session is to train people to preach the gospel and learn friendship evangelism. This involves giving Bible studies, meeting the physical or emotional needs of a person, and learning how to be an evangelistic speaker. In 2007 Norman Elliott of Bishopville, NC, attended a ShareHim boot camp session. The weekend left such an impression on Elliott, he immediately shared his experience with other church members upon his return home. He'd convinced Francis Boone and Della Dubose to join him for boot camp in 2008. By the time training came to an end, they were ready to conduct evangelistic meetings in their local area. Pastor Bob Fekete of the Camden church helped with the meetings. But this was only the beginning, as God's plans continued to unfold.
When boot camp began this year, nine churches were already preparing to conduct evangelistic campaigns. Norman Elliot and Francis Boone and Della Dubose did not attend, but the seed that was planted two years ago, was still growing. On Sabbath morning everyone split into groups to practice the sermons provided by ShareHim. When Conference Ministerial Director, Haskell Williams, noticed two women standing at the back of the room, he invited them to come forward and give it a try. One of the women came forward and as she begun preaching, the group was captivated by her passion. She barely used the notes or looked at the computer for assistance.
"You need to go on a ShareHim campaign," exclaimed Williams. The woman, Vicki Amerson, explained how she was actually at the boot camp because of an evangelistic meeting she went to in Bishopville. Sound familiar? Not only did Amerson come to the training session, but she was also planning to be baptized later that afternoon. One man's outreach resulted in a divine appointment that took two years to unfold! We don't always see the fruits of our labor, but this story proves our work is not in vain.
